Hello humans! We’ve taken some time to release an update because we have made significant changes to the game and need to be clear about the direction we wanted to take with Paradise Lost. We’ve received a lot of feedback from the community and backers, concerned because the game is too focused on stealth & puzzle solving, and that might be tedious and boring at the end… SO we’ve taken into account your opinions and decided to drastically change the look and style of PLFC.
This is a quick preview of how the game will look further on, changing the pillars of the adventure into an action focused game. We have completely redesigned the look of Subject W, giving it some kind of space marine look and allowing the use of fire weapons, with the sole objective of destroying the facility and all mankind.
No more hiding. No more running. Green takes over.
Bazinga! Okay, it’s time to calm down (if some of you have been busted) this is just an april fools’ joke. The game follows its development as always, just wanted to have a few laughs with you. Now let’s talk about some real features that we made :D
Plants can fly too
We love the way that nature develops their own subsistence mechanisms, inspiring us to create new skills for the plant. One of these fantastic abilities are the whirlybirds of the maple trees. The shape of these seeds favors dissemination, spinning in the air as they fall. We have taken this concept to create the double jump that you can see in this video.
Characters are fundamental on Paradise Lost, and our writer continues to add new members to the cast of the game, providing a greater depth and complexity to the story. Here’s a quick sketch of Acid, one of the lieutenants of Ash that leads the extermination squad. You can also see how it looks in pixels.
This are some of the things that we’re making right now. Also, here’s a selection of indies and surprises about Subject W… Keep reading ;)
Indies, indies everywhere!
This month we want to help more projects that catch our attention and one that will include our lovely W as a character! Check it out:
Hex Heroes is a real time strategy game up to 4 players for Wii U that offers asymmetric gameplay using the unique features of the console. Gamepad players can manage decisions and have an overhead view of the map. The other pals choose different classes that will give them special abilities, going directly onto action with an individual point of view, in order to build up their cities, explore new territories, and confront enemies.
The game will also include funny figurines of other indie games such as Juan from Guacamelee or Shovel Knight. One of those characters will be none other than our beloved Subject W, and we can’t wait to see it’s final look! Meanwhile, here’s a mockup of W’s made by our colleagues at Prismatic. It looks adorable!
We are lovers of handmade animations, and Kodama is one of those beautiful and unique projects full of them. The game is a 2D hand painted, physics based Platformer set in Japans Genroku Period and tells the story of a tree spirit who finds his mountain forest in danger. Players must run, jump, climb, push, pull, and swing in order to traverse several unique and challenging environments. Looks promising.
Btw, plant characters are taking the game scene! :D
Our fellow Spanish comrades from Fictiorama studios are making a classic point and click adventure with a unique expressionist style and a dark, dystopian atmosphere. The player will have to help Michael, a man with no past, recover his identity and decode the events that brought the world to the edge of collapse. As creators said: “Guybrush meets Mad Max meets 12 Monkeys”… perfect combo!
You can give it a try playing the demo here.
Ashen Rift presents itself as a new take on classic shooters. The game is a first person survival horror game that places you and your canine companion Bounder in a barely recognizable Earth which has been twisted and drained of almost all life. Together you seek to stop the remaining life from hemorrhaging Earth by disabling the “Rift” rumored to be the cause.
A devastated atmosphere + game mechanics where ammo and guns sparse, forcing the player to find new methods of surviving hostile encounters makes this a winner.
Another friends from our country are Yanim studios, developers of this colorful adventure. Divine, the teen goddess, is losing her powers and needs to recover them. The action takes place in her subconscious: a planet full of caves, mountains, rivers and inhabitants, friends and enemies… All of them form part of her past life.
The game have a demo so you can try it by yourself. Download it here ;)
People cannot live on indie games alone, so this time we wanted to show you something different. Ravings of love & death is the poetic title of an anthology dedicated to Edgar Allan Poe lovers, gathering the most significant love and death stories of the writer. Meticulously illustrated by David G. Forés over the last two years this is a publication where text, images and an original soundtrack immerse you into its story.
This edition will be able only through Kickstarter and have 15 days to go. What are you waiting to go for it?
Also, don’t miss this funny piece of art that David made for us. Hope you like it as much as we do.
And that’s all for now. Don’t miss those fantastic projects and remember to followAsthree Works on Twitter for more things about the developing process.
